Richard Donner
(Director)
Like Sylvester Stallone, Richard Donner was born in New York, though some
16 years earlier. After acting off-Broadway, he turned his hand to
directing commercials and industrial films. He got his chance at television
in 1958, directing Steve McQueen in Wanted: Dead or Alive, which led
to his directing a host of classic television shows, including
Gilligan's Island, Kojak and The Six Million Dollar
Man. In 1976, he had a huge hit with his debut feature, The
Omen, and two years later he scored again with Superman. He
teamed up with Steven Spielberg in 1985 to direct The Goonies. The
most successful series of films he's done began in 1987 with Lethal
Weapon and continues through 1998's Lethal Weapon 4. In addition
to directing, he has produced many of his features as well as producing
such other pictures as The Lost Boys (1987), Free Willy
(1993) and X-Men (2000). His next directing project is this year's
action adventure fantasy Timeline.
