Taye Diggs
(Eddie Baker)
Actor Taye Diggs (born Scott Diggs) may have a pretty face, but he has an
even more appealing voice. The young actor who grew up in Rochester, N.Y.,
received his bachelor's degree in musical theatre from Syracuse University.
Diggs made his professional debut with the ensemble cast of the
award-winning revival of Carousel. He followed that with his
performance as Benny the landlord in the acclaimed musical
Rent.
Diggs also found his way onto the small screen on the soap opera
Guiding Light. In 1998, the actor got his big break. He was cast as
the young heartthrob Winston Shakespeare in How Stella Got her Groove
Back, co-starring Angela Bassett. He went on to appear in The Best
Man, a role with which he closely identifies. "Of all the roles I have
had to play, it was closest to who I am as a person and where I was in my
life as well," he told CNN.com in 2001.
In 1997 Ally McBeal creator David E. Kelley tapped the budding
actor for a part on the quirky, popular television show. Diggs is
scheduled to star in Basic, with John Travolta and Samuel L.
Jackson, in 2002.
