Dabney Coleman’s extensive career on television and in film began with his TV debut in the series
That Girl. He was subsequently cast in the series
Mary Hartman Mary Hartman and its spinoffs,
Forever Fernwood and
Fernwood 2-Night. Coleman starred in
Buffalo Bill, which earned him a Golden Globe® nomination and two Emmy® nominations, followed by
The Slap Maxwell Story, for which he received an Emmy nomination and won a Golden Globe. He was also nominated for a Globe Globe and won an Emmy for his dramatic performance in the television movie
Sworn to Silence. Additional Emmy nominations came for the miniseries
Baby M and a guest spot on
Columbo, and he was nominated for a CableACE for his performance in
Murrow.
Coleman’s other television credits include
The Texan, Kiss My Act, My Date with the President’s Daughter, In the Line of Duty, Must Be Santa, Guilty of Innocence: The Lenell Geter Story, Never Forget and the television series
Drexell’s Class and
Madman of the People. He was also featured in the CBS drama
The Guardian all three seasons.
In motion pictures, Coleman became a star with his work in
9 to 5, essaying the role of the male chauvinist boss. Over the years, the veteran actor has starred in
Tootsie, War Games, On Golden Pond, Cloak & Dagger, Dragnet, You’ve Got Mail, Inspector Gadget, Stuart Little and
Moonlight Mile, as well as provided voice work for the animated feature
Recess: School’s Out.
