Andrew Davis
(Director )
Tightly wound action flicks typically bring Director Andrew Davis success.
It is no surprise, then, that Davis spent time working as a fast-paced
journalist and television cameraman before finding his calling on the silver
screen. In 1969 Davis worked closely with cinematographer Haskell Wexler on
the film Medium Cool. The politically charged film garnered much
critical praise, and Davis found himself working as a cinematographer on a
series of films before co-writing, producing and directing the 1978
independent movie called Stony Island. But Davis came into his own as
a director of action films when he worked with actor Chuck Norris in Code
of Silence (1985). He added to his string of rib-cracking movies with
Above the Law (1988), the first film to star action hero Steven
Seagal. Davis worked with the brawny actor again in the successful Under
Siege (1992), but the next year he directed a blockbuster bear that
raised eyebrows in most critic's corners as well. The Fugitive (1993),
a film adaptation of the 1960s television program of the same name, starred
Harrison Ford and grossed over $350 million internationally. Davis is slated
to direct Under Siege 3 next year.
