William Hurt

Distinguished actor William Hurt was born March 20, 1950, and attended
Tufts University in Massachusetts. He graduated in 1972 and by 1977 was
performing on the stage in Henry V at the Oregon Shakespeare
Festival. He followed that performance with a leap to the silver screen as
quirky scientist Eddie Jessup in the sci-fi thriller Altered States
(1980).
In 1983, Hurt landed the role of Nick Williams in a movie with a memorable
ensemble cast including Kevin Kline and Glenn Close called The Big
Chill. In 1985, Hurt garnered much praise and an Academy Award® for
Best Actor for his role in Kiss of the Spiderwoman. The actor went
on to earn critics' praise and Oscar® nominations for his roles in
Children of a Lesser God (1986) and Broadcast News (1987).
This year, Hurt is slated to star in Tuck Everlasting, with actors
Ben Kingsley and Sissy Spacek.
