A League of Their Own received a truckload of awards and nominations. Unfortunately, none of them were Oscars®. But kudos are kudos, after all. Tom Hanks won an American Comedy Award for Funniest Supporting Actor in a Motion Picture. This was before Mr. Hanks became an Oscar® darling with back-to-back Best Actor awards for Philadelphia (1994) and Forrest Gump (1994). Hanks was also nominated for an MTV Movie Award® for the Best Kiss that he planted on actress Pauline Brailsford.
Rosie O'Donnell was nominated by MTV for Best Breakthrough Performance and Geena Davis was a contender for Best Female Performance. A League of Their Own won a much-deserved Artios Award from the Casting Society of America for Best Casting for a Feature Film Drama.
The end credit song by Madonna, "This Used To Be My Playground," was nominated for a Golden Globe® award for Best Original Song. A Golden Globe® nomination was also bestowed upon Geena Davis for Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture Comedy/Musical.
